Title of Role: Volunteer Charity Shop Assistant
Purpose of the Role
The purpose of the role is to assist in the day to day running of the DIAL Doncaster charity shop to maximise sales and profitability.
Main Activities/ Tasks:
- To assist and serve customers, providing a service of the highest standard.
- To assist with processing stock, including sorting, steaming, pricing and hanging of donated items.
- To be involved with the till operation and the handling of cash (although this is not a necessary requirement).
- To promote public understanding of the work DIAL Doncaster delivers and the importance of raising funds through the shop.
- To promote and apply DIAL Doncaster's Health and Safety Policy.
Qualities/ Experience/Skills
Good communication and customer care service skills are essential to fulfil this role. Being able to work as part of a team environment and with the general public is essential.
Training
Full in-house training will be given of operational procedures during your Induction Period.
Location
DIAL Doncaster Charity Shop. There are four shops situated in Armthorpe, Intake, Balby and Woodlands.

Title of Role: Volunteer Delivery and Collection Assistant
Purpose of the Role
The purpose of the role is to assist the Van Driver to collect and deliver donated items across Doncaster.
Main Activities/Tasks:
- To assist with the collection of donated items from the general public and transport them to the charity shops as required.
- To assist with the delivery of items to customers as required.
- To help load and unload the van.
- To promote and apply DIAL Doncaster's Health and Safety Policy.

Training

Title of Role: Volunteer Helpline Adviser
Purpose of the Role
The purpose of the role is to provide support to the Helpline Team by taking calls and answering enquiries from DIAL Doncaster's Helpline.
Main Activities/Tasks:
- To provide support to the Helpline Team by answering calls from clients via our Helpline Service.
- To actively listen and respond to clients in a polite manner.
- To maintain accurate records using our Redial Case Management System.
- To provide accurate information to callers using the information database and other resources available.
- Ensure that the client can access information easily.
- To complete any follow up work where appropriate.
- To arrange appointments for benefits advice at outreach surgeries using the diary.
- To refer clients on to the appropriate team for further help or support.
- To provide administrative support where appropriate.
Qualities/Experience/Skills
Good communication and listening skills are essential to fulfil this role. Understanding the need for confidentiality, when dealing with a caller's enquiry, is an essential part of this role. Having the ability to respond appropriately to different situations is required. Computer skills/experience is necessary as the Case Management/Information System is computer based. A good knowledge of disability issues is desirable but not essential as full training will be given.
Training
Full in-house training will be given. External training, such as, 'An Overview of Welfare Benefits' (a three day course), is appropriate to undertake for this role, as well as telephone skills and advice giving skills training where necessary.

Title of Role: Volunteer Information Assistant
Purpose of Role
The purpose of the role is to assist the Information Officer in the maintenance of DIAL Doncaster's Information Systems.
These mainly comprise of:
- A Computer based Information Data Base System that lists relevant National and Local organisations.
- An Extensive Filing/Computer based Library of Publications.
- In-house produced Factsheets relating to disability.
- In-house produced Information Booklets/Leaflets relating to disability.
- The DIAL Website and Information Kiosks.
Main Activities and Tasks:
- To assist in maintaining and updating information where relevant.
- This process involves sending update requests to local and national organisations via post or email.
- To update incoming input forms onto the computer based Information Data Base.
- To update/replenish stocks of publications where necessary and to file incoming new editions using the computer based Publications Library.
- Photocopying, telephone and letter typing skills may be required from time to time.
Qualities/Experience/Skills
As most of our Information Systems are computer based, computer skills/experience is essential to fulfil this role. As inputting information needs to be word perfect you would need to demonstrate a good use of grammar.

Title of Role: Volunteer Welfare Benefits Administration Assistant
Purpose of the Role
The purpose of the role is to provide administrative support to the Welfare Benefits Administration Team by maintaining accurate case files, follow up work and general administrative tasks.
Main Activities/Tasks:
- To input accurate data into case files on our Case Management System.
- Contact clients where requested to determine outcome of their claim for benefits.
- To file paper case sheets in an organised manner.
- To undertake other various administrative tasks where required, e.g. photocopying, filing, archiving, letter typing, outgoing postal procedure.
- To provide reception support, if necessary.
Qualities/Experience/Skills
Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with clients on the telephone, are essential to fulfil this role. The ability to work as part of a team, as well as unsupervised, in an office environment is beneficial. Office experience is desirable but not essential. A good level of computer skills is required as our Case Management System is computer based. Understanding the need for confidentiality, when dealing with case files, is an essential part of this role.
